Back Packing Trip

So Leah said that I needed to do a Blog entry to tell everyone about a backpacking trip that I just went on with my friend Kevin. Kevin flew into the Burbank Airport right by our house and then we drove up to Los Osos to stay at Leah's parents house. The next morning we drove up to the Big Sur Ranger station that is about an hour south of Monterrey. This is where it all started. We hiked into a campground called Terrace Creek and the whole way there the trees just kept getting bigger and bigger.

By the time we reached the camp we were in the middle of a redwood forest. There was one tree that was massive the base was probably the size of the house we are renting. The base was down in the bottom of a valley and the top went through the tops of the other trees. We could not even fit it in a picture.

We were so tired by the time that we got to the camp because we hiked 8.5 miles the first day, and what we learned was that the mountains go straight up out of the ocean. We camped next to the creek and ate tin foil dinners thanks to Leah.

The next morning we go up early and hiked the rest of the way. When we reached the top we had a view of the ocean and the pictures really dont do it justice. There was a 180 degree view of the ocean and it was a clear day. Really this was the most gratifying part of the trip.

We went back to SLO to hang out with Bryan and of course we had to go to Firestone for Tri-Tip sandwiches. Then on the way home we had to stop at the beach so Kevin could put his feet in the sand and get some shells for his little girls.

It was an awesome trip and I really hope that it turns into something that we can do every year.

I am glad you had such a fun time. I love the ocean pictures. We will have to head up there sometime!

Wow! What an amazing trip! I love it when the mountians and trees go right to the ocean. It's an awesome combination! If you ever fell like you need some boy/cub scouts to tag along...I've got 3!
